Turn your home into a five minute home for quick, convenient way to clean your house day-to-day in just five minutes per room.

What is a five minute home?
Simple. A five minute home is a home where you can clean each room in five minutes. No more organizing as you clean and it never ends up getting cleaned, because there are piles of “things” everywhere that don’t have a place.
How to create a five minute home
To simplify each room to make it an easy process to clean. For you this might mean organizing your space and for some it might mean decluttering almost everything. Others…well those people who have it all together have to do nothing (#goals)

Start small
Now this is going to be a marathon, not a quick sprint. Especially if you are a mom there is not enough time, money, or energy to do this all at once. I’ve been working on simplifying my home for over a year and it’s still not how I would like it to be. Now don’t let that discourage you. Your home is a place that is ever changing. Different seasons of life bring along different bundles of things around your home. Jobs, moving, babies, animals, this all brings change and it all revolves around your home.

Keep what makes you happy
I think in todays day and age you will find that people are just getting rid of everything. I am not one to talk, I don’t see the point of endless storage bins. That being said, don’t throw something out just because you think you’re done with it. If it makes you happy. Keep it. As long as it has a place and purpose in your home and brings you joy, then keep it. Just organize.

Organize
Most often we think organizing means you have to have ‘The Home Edit’ organizing skills and have every organizational tool or bin to make your home perfect. That’s false. For the bulk of our apartment organization I used plastic spring lettuce containers from ALDI because I was buying lettuce anyways. Let me tell you, it worked great. Now that I have a house, I have slowly been able to replace them all with a tote or a basket. But it didn’t start out that way.

Keep it simple
Cleaning isn’t just sweeping up the floor and dusting, although that does take time, it’s cleaning up what you put into your room. Whether it’s book, decor, toys. Keep it simple. If throw pillows and blankets in your living room is what’s driving you nuts every time you try to clean, get rid of them. Make your space pleasing to you. If you don’t know what to keep and what to get rid of, set a 5 minute timer and see what you can do in those five minutes. If there’s something that takes up the bulk of that time, evaluate that space.

Be content with non-aesthetic
This is a hard pill for me to swallow. I love aesthetically pleasing spaces. I feel this every time I look into our pantry and don’t see a bunch of glass jars filled with beautiful grains and hanging pots, along with some hanging dried herbs. This also is the same with our laundry room. Our washer and dryer are old and ugly, our coat racks don’t go with the style of my room, and the doors aren’t trimmed out. Every time I walk into the room I cringe. But you know what, it’s clean, it’s organized, and it works. At the end of the day that’s what matters. Having clean clothes for my family.

Conclusion
Creating a place where you feel calm and comfortable I. is so important for you and your family to enjoy. Let me know in the comments below any tips and tricks you have implemented into your home to simplify your daily routine.
